K's Comic-Con Report OR The Only Comic Con Report You Need Read

Date: August 3, 2004
Writer: K

I've never done one of these before, so bear with me. I was told I could just update with everything I did while at Comic-Con, mostly highlighting the Teen Titans parts for TGN, but I'm really bad at narratives unless I have a clear idea in my head of what I want to do. So instead of just rambling for hours about what we did, I'm going to do a photodocumentary of all the interesting things that went down.

After checking into our hotel, I gave Phil my Powerpuff Girls pillow, which got no use on the flights from Bozeman to San Diego THANKS ANNOYING CHILDREN BEHIND ME. ...*ahem* But after getting in, Phil, our resident insomniac, sat down and took a nap while we all took pictures of him. Aww.

While I was out getting real mexican food with my friends (I used to live in San Diego, for all of you who didn't know) and OJR, two of our friends from PpGWorld.com, Parsec and Polychrome, got engaged. Congratulations again, you crazy kids.

Speaking of OJR, he's very British. See, he's even drinking tea. Oh, and that's Ixnay's nose, if you're wondering.

Min, Phil, Pete (Dr Faust), and maybe other people at the other end of the table dared Nick to eat whatever they threw on his plate.

Nachos, ranch dressing, I think a couple chicken wings, and I can't tell what the hell else is on there.

I still owe him like, two bucks for eating that.

Not a whole lot of interesting things happened on Thursday. We mostly spent the whole day walking around.

[ Fullsize photo ]

Kyle (ixnay) got to meet Honest Abe. Kyle, you should totally go as Abe Lincoln for Halloween. It'll be great, I swear.

[ Fullsize photo ]

We also saw other celebrities, like Pikachu.

Jamie (OJR) got so excited that he literally dove into his bag when we got a chance to sit down. Silly Britonfish.

Then he did a fan dance for me.

I don't remember what we did Thursday night. I don't have pictures of it, so it's not important.

Friday was shopping day for Jamie, Jules, and I. No pictures of that, obviously. It was also the day for the Cartoon Network and Teen Titans panels. ...That's where you guys are supposed to cheer. Let's try it again. Ready? ...Okay, ready now? Good. "It was also the day for the Cartoon Network and Teen Titans panels." ...Good.

To start things off, here's a pic of the new Terra toy. TERRA YAY TERRA. It looks a lot better in person than it does in pics/promo pics.

There was also a signing at the Bandai Booth with David Slack (Story Editor), Glen Murakami (Producer), Ron Perlman (Slade), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Ben Hoegee (Writer), Amy Wolfram (Writer). Everyone was awesome, and we got a lot of autographs and free stuff. You can see all the autographs Ixnay got in his update.

After the signing we ran over to the CN panel. Lots of good new shows coming out (Juniper Lee was my favourite out of all of them), and more eps of Megas XLR. Rock.

But on to what you came here to see, the Teen Titans Panel!

I had a much higher res version of that pic, but Ix messed it up :( Sad. I can't remember who all was there, other than the moderator was Sam Register, the voice actors were Tara Strong (Raven), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), and Scott Menville (Robin), and Murakami was there. Goddamnit, I need a better memory.

But anyway, I'm just going to paste what I wrote in my main page update. Butch can fill in what I missed.

In Season Three, look for:
A Cyborg story arc
The return of: Slade, Red X (more on this later), and Blackfire
Brother Blood

In Season Four, look for:
The Raven story arc (unconfirmed what arc it is)

Alright, now back to the Red X story. We got to see a clip of the episode "X" in which Robin and the Titans fight Red X. Yeah yeah, Robin is Red X, yadda yadda. But no, he's not. The Titans and Red X fight for a while and the Titans get their asses handed to them. The best part was a ton of little Super D Starfires poking Robin trying to figure out if he was a hologram. The clip was great, and from what we saw, Season 3 looks to be loads better than Season 2.

There was also some Q&A with the panel people.

Oh, and I know a couple people were there. At the beginning of the panel, Sam Register asked what we wanted to talk about, and Jules and I started screaming that we wanted to talk about Terra ("Terra! Terra! We love Terra!") and other people thought we meant Tara Strong and started talking about Raven. I swear to God...

There's not much more to update on about the panel that I didn't already cover. Oh! TT cosplayers!

I didn't get to ask who was who, so if you know them (or you are them), email me and I'll credit accordingly.

Outside the doors after the panel, Sam held Titans Trivia with signed Puffy AmiYumi cds. I answered the question about what jewel Blackfire brought Starfire and got a cd, and OJR answered the one about what villain Starfire has for an alarm clock, and he got one, also. Pictures forthcoming !

That night was dinner at the Spaghetti Factory, where we've started going for our huge Group dinner every year.

I had fettucine alfredo. It was really good.

Saturday was the Adult Swim panel, more walking, more boring. In fact, nothing really interesting happened till Tuesday. Sunday and Monday we went to a couple of arcades and DDRed a lot. PS Golden Token in Lemon Grove is the most awesome arcade in San Diego. I finally AAed Abyss. 20 Greats, bitches. Oh yeah. ...Ahem.

Actually, wait, Sunday was the day we met finally Derrick Wyatt (Char designer) , whom we'd been tracking down for four bloody days, and Ben Jones (Director). We got an assload of sketches from them, and had fun talking and being dorks.
