San Diego Comic-Con '07 is coming! (also: "Legion" & "Transformers" series updates)
Posted by Butch on July 25, 2007 @ 5:43 am EST - Link

For all of you attending the San Diego Comic-Con event this week, here's a schedule for panels of interest to animated Titans fans (and fans of the production crew):

Thursday - July 26th
Writing with Mark Verheiden @ 11:30-12:30 AM (Room 4) - Comic-Con special guest Mark Verheiden, writer of the upcoming live-action Teen Titans movie, offers advice to writers in a Q&A session. Mark Verheiden will also be at the The Art of Adapting Comics to the Screen panel on Friday @ 10:30-11:30 PM (Room 5AB).

World Premiere! Superman Doomsday @ 8:30-10:30 PM (Ballroom 20) - DC Comics, Warner Home Video, and WB Animation's "Superman: Doomsday" animated movie's world premiere. It’s the first of DC's Direct-to-DVD animated adaptions of classic comic stories, rated PG-13 for older audiences. "Superman: Doomsday" is based on the best-selling "Death of Superman" story arc. The discussion panel afterwards is hosted by DC's Gregory Novek and includes exec. producer/director/writer Bruce Timm (JLU, Batman: TAS), directors Brandon Vietti and Lauren Montgomery (Legion of Super Heroes), writer Duane Capizzi (The Batman) and possibly some of the voice cast. At the end will be a preview of future DC Universe films.
(note: Encore Presentation screening @ 10:30-11:45 PM)

Friday - July 27th
Warner Bros. Animation: The Batman/Legion of Super-Heroes @ 4:15-5:45 PM (Room 6B) - A double panel discussing and previewing for both series. For The Batman, supervising producer Alan Burnett, producer/director Michael Goguen (Batman: TAS), voice director Andrea Romano, and Rino Romano (voice of Batman), will discuss the upcoming season featuring the Justice League. For Legion of Super Heroes, Season 2 will add new members (including Chameleon Boy). Producer James Tucker (JLU), director Brandon Vietti (Superman: Doomsday), and story editor/writer Michael Jelenic (The Batman) will be joined by voice actors Yuri Lowenthal (voice of Superman), Phil Morris, and Alex Polinsky; both panels to be moderated by TV Guide's Rich Sands.

Saturday - July 28th
Hasbro: Transformers Entertainment Panel featuring Hasbro, Cartoon Network Studios, and IDW Publishing @ 11:45-1:15 PM (Room 6A) - Hasbro's Transformers marketing and design team will discuss development of the Transformers movie, and will be joined by IDW (publisher of Transformers comics) and Cartoon Network to discuss the new animated series and toys. There will be a Q&A session on the comic books, upcoming projects, and more.

Sunday - July 29th
Cartoon Network: Ben-10 @ 1:30-2:30 PM (Room 6B) - The future of Ben 10 will be shown, with series producer Alex Soto (Teen Titans) answering fans' questions. Meagan Smith (voice of Gwen) will also be present. Seating for the panel is limited to the first 1000 attendees in line, so make sure you get there early.

According to Newsarama, Hasbro's Transformers panel on Saturday will have Sam Register (exec. producer), Matt Youngberg, (supervising director), Derrick Wyatt (character designer), and Marty Isenberg (story editor) in attendance.

That's quite alot of ex-Teen Titans series crew members working on the new Transformers show, with even more in the ranks such as Teen Titans director/storyboarder Ben Jones (who recently put up some cool Bulkhead doodles on his blog). Definitely check out their panel if you're attending SDCC, as well as the series itself when it hits early next year on Cartoon Network.

Comics Continuum provides a promo image for Legion of Super Heroes Season 2, as well as more info about Friday's Legion panel. The image shows new character designs for Lightning Lad, Brainiac 5, and Timberwolf; it also reveals a new Superman (one of two versions) and Chameleon Boy.

That about wraps up this update. To those of you emailing us during the convention or very recently, thanks for your patience; we'll get back to everyone once we've returned. As for you folks attending Comic-Con, see you all there!

At last, the winners of our Exclusive TT Stuff contest! We had such an amount of entries, we decided to pick even more winners! But first, here is what each grand prize includes, in three parts - limited event items, comics, and the special surprise:

1. Limited Event items (click to view): each grand prize winner receives the Teen Titans promo card specially designed by producer Glen Murakami for San Diego Comic-Con 2005, a Teen Titans press card from SDCC, a WHV/DC Comics press card promoting the first wave of DC's PG-13 movie adaptions (including TT story The Judas Contract), and the very limited edition "Robin as Red X" mini figurine exclusive from Bandai at SDCC 2004!

2. Comics: they'll also get any "Teen Titans Go!" digest book of their choice. And last but not least...

3. Surprise: in addition, grand prize includes one actual production print of artwork used in creating the Teen Titans series! Each grand prize winner may choose from our Official Art gallery or request another, if we happen to have it (character/prop model sheets & concept art only; digital art can't be mailed, naturally). We only have one of each model sheet and concept art, so first asked, first served!

Other prizes: 2nd place winners will get the WHV/DC press card, and the August '06 Animation Magazine issue, which includes a photo shoot of several Titans crew members in their (at the time) latest gig on "Legion of Super Heroes". The 3rd prize winner will receive the WHV/DC press card, and any "Teen Titans Go!" digest book of their choice.

Finally, chosen by random lottery...
- Grand Prize #1: Aaron Florendo
- Grand Prize #2: Jennifer Van Metre

- 2nd Prize #1: Joseph Cornillez
- 2nd Prize #2: Otaku BeastBoy
- 3rd Prize: Shannon Richmond

Let's hear it for our winners! We hope they'll provide a good home for their prizes, because we already miss them. Winners, expect an email soon on claiming your prizes, and congratulations! To everyone, thanks so much for participating in our contest. We loved seeing fandom power in action through your photos!

BB's origin, TTG-style! (also: director Michael Chang's TTG work, and Cyborg in "Super Friends" DVD)
Posted by Butch on July 14, 2007 @ 6:09 am EST - Link

Apologies for the lack of updates, everyone. Our next update (coming soon) will finally reveal the winners of our Exclusive TT Stuff contest, as well as all the neat prizes, so stay tuned! As for right now, check out these amazing sneak peeks at what's in store for the "Teen Titans Go!" comic series and more:

"Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres recently revealed 4 incredible panels from TTG #45's BB origin story, as drawn by guest artist Alex Serra. TTG #45 will feature a re-telling of Beast Boy's origin as one of it's two comic stories (with the other being a re-telling of Cyborg's origin story as drawn by guest artist Fabio Laguna). From the looks of those panels, Beast Boy fans will definitey not want to miss out when #45 hits stores this month (be honest, how many of you knew BB is a natural blonde?). Click the link to check out the sneak peek, which nicely briefs BB's backstory in a few short but sweet panels.

"Teen Titans Go!" #45 will be available on July 25th (less than 2 weeks away), so be on the lookout for it or reserve your copy.

As if TTG #45 wasn't enough to look forward to, in September we'll see a "Teen Titans Go!" #47 story drawn by one of Teen Titans' very own series directors, Michael Chang. He recently put up a TTG #47 sneak peek page from the 10-page story he drew for the issue, which is a "2-stories-in-1" book featuring Robin's origin, as well as a story with Starfire, Raven, and Gizmo. Guest artist Christine Norrie drew the art for the other story.

Even in that one page, Michael's style from the series is apparent (and very nostalgic) and full of that same energy. "Teen Titans Go!" #47 will arrive in stores on September 26th, so it'll take awhile but the wait will be worth it.

TVShowsOnDVD.com reports that a "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians" DVD is slated for release. "The Super Powers Team" series, more immediately recognized under the name "Super Friends", was the last version of the Hanna-Barbera studio's "Super Friends" show and came out in 1985. Most significant to Titans fans is that The Super Powers Team featured a new member: Cyborg (voiced by Ernie Hudson)!

"The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians" DVD is due in stores on October 23rd; it will include all 10 episodes and a revised version of the "Super Friends" team as an extra feature.
