Teen Titans heading to theatres? (also: TTG update, new format, and more!)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Teen Titans is getting the big-screen treatment! Although details about this particular project surfaced everywhere a few years ago, it now looks as if real plans are underway:

"The live-action adaptation is being produced by Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster through their Weed Road banner, while Mark Verheiden has been brought on board to write the script."

This movie will be based on the Teen Titans comics, and won't be associated wth the animated series. The article adds that Nightwing may be featured (no other Titans have been confirmed), that the movie's tone will be consistent with WB's recent "Batman Begins" and "Superman Returns" comic book films, and that Weed Roads is currently developing a "Doom Patrol" movie as well. No release date has been given for this Teen Titans movie, but with four years since news of it first came up, hopefully much is done and we'll eventually see the Titans on the big screen! (Update Edit: The new TTG digest has recently been added to Amazon.com: Pre-order TTG Vol. 6: "Titans Together"! Arriving November 7th at 144 pages, this will likely collect 7 issues instead of the usual 5.)

Two big updates on the status of "Teen Titans Go!": A source close to DC Comics has told us that "Teen Titans Go!" is getting an additional collected volume (read on for why this is significant)! Even more good news is that the fan letters sent to DC Comics are having a big effect. Apparently the letters are doing so well that the cut-off month for TTG is now even more vague and up in the air (but in a good way). This may mean the series has been given more issues as an extension!

The news about TTG getting another collected volume (and in a new format) is noteworthy for two reasons: the series will no longer be collected in the small "digest book" format, but will be given a nicer "full-size" format (show-based comic "The Batman Strikes!" will also get this new format, as DC's latest solicits show). A new volume also shows DC is interested in keeping the series around (as well as a chance for more volumes and new TTG issues!). For this "upgrade" to happen, TTG must be highly regarded by the folks at DC.

Despite the good news all around, no confirmation that TTG is in the clear has been given yet. The fan letters made alot of progress so far, so we urge everyone to continue sending letters of support to DC Comics (remember to be courteous) and to spread the word:

Write to:
Paul Levitz (and/or: Dan DiDio; Tom Palmer Jr.; "Johnny DC")
c/o DC COMICS
1700 Broadway NYC, NY 10019

E-mail: askdcdirect@dccomics.com

We've come far enough to get a possible series extension and a shiny new volume to boot, so keep those letters coming!

"Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres posted some commentary for TTG #43 to his blog. The issue features Psimon and Dr. Light forming the Fearsome Five, a badguy team with comic book roots for which the two have been rotating members:

"However, not only does Dr. Light appear in this issue, but a handful of baddies make their TTG debut, including Psimon, Hive Angel, and Hive Wrestler - plus, returning for quick cameos for the first time since they were introduced are Kwiz Kid, Rock, Paper, and Scissors!"

TTG #43 arrived in stores this week, so be sure to pick up a copy (and maybe head to our forums for discussion)! For anyone who wants a peek before buying, J also posted a 5-page preview of the issue.
