Preview for TTG's final issue! (also: Billy Numerous in mainstream DC title)

Excitingly, yet sadly, the time has come: Tomorrow, the final issue of the "Teen Titans Go!" comic series as we know it will be released.

"Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres has posted a five-page preview for TTG's final issue, #55! Taking it full circle with its cover art allusion to the series' first issue, "Teen Titans Go!" #55 will cover an incredibly expanded legion of Titans (as immediately shown in the preview), one last battle with their early foes the HIVE 5, and much more.

Click here for the TTG #55 preview pages, as well as J's parting words for the series. It has indeed been a wonderful title run, and we can't imagine it having any better a crew as J. Torres, Todd Nauck, Lary Stucker, and the rest of the "Teen Titans Go!' team. Many thanks to you guys for turning out issue after issue of an incredible and immensely fun comic for all us fans the world over. Extra props to J for being so gracious to us here at TitansGo. Everytime we had even the most minor request, you went and gave that extra mile. Congratulations TTG, but never goodbye!

Has Billy Numerous hit the big time in the mainstream DC Universe? Apparently so, as he appeared in last week's Catwoman #79, with Selina Kyle (Catwoman) returning home from the events of DC's "villain planet, Alcatraz-style" series, Salvation Run. She clashes with a certain thief wearing red and white who can split into many individuals. Thanks to TGN forum member Wakka Man for the notice.

Click here for scans of Billy's appearances in the issue, provided by the scans_daily comics community. With this appearance, Billy has joined the ranks of other animated Teen Titans characters specially made for the show who've popped up in pages of mainstream DC Comics titles. Others include Mas y Menos, and Cinderblock seen in Teen Titans. There've been other strong nods to the animated series: Beast Boy, Bumblebee, and others taking their animated counterparts' costumes and abilities, for example. Billy Numerous' significant appearance in Catwoman is yet another sign of how much the animated Titans have influenced DC's mainstream titles. Good job Billy, and you too Billy; here's to many more!

The Season 5 DVD will be released on July 8th, 2008; it includes all 13 episodes of Season 5 on two discs, as well as 20 minutes of "secret files" bonus material. And don't forget, how well the DVDs sell gives Cartoon Network the message that we want to see more animated Titans!

Adding to their "Teen Titans Go!" interviews, World's Finest recently put up an interview with Ethen Beavers (TTG guest artist). Ontop of being the artist for last month's TTG #54 (the Wonder Girl II paradise island story), Ethen has been a storyboarder for Justice League Unlimited, as well as an artist for its comic title.

Ethen: "It takes a little while to become competent with new styles, but after a while, you start to figure things out. for instance on Titans, I learned that Murakami's designs for the original Titans (Cyborg excluded) are actually pretty creepy from the neck down. They are very angular and thin, and they hunch a little bit. Without the heads on, the characters look a lot like zombies. In contrast, their heads are these huge, cute, Anime looking things. I never would have thought to put those heads and body types together, but the fact is they look great together! So I learn a lot with each new style and I have an opportunity to get better, and hopefully smarter, at drawing in the process."

J. Torres & Todd Nauck on the end of TTG

Updated 5/17/08: World's Finest recently put up another "Teen Titans Go!" interview, this time with TTG's main artist Todd Nauck. Todd chats about the end of "Teen Titans Go!", what made it a memorable experience for him, his other and upcoming works, and more. Click the link for the full interview.

With the final issue of "Teen Titans Go!" coming in just two weeks, TTG writer J. Torres chimes in on the series ending. He alerts on his blog to a recently posted interview he did for World's Finest. The interview covers the end of TTG, what could have been, and much more:

World's Finest: "Now, there's a lot you started to set up and explored in the GO! title. The next few questions will cover a few of the ideas you presented. So, let's go! Towards the end of Teen Titans Go!'s run, you set up plot strands concerning Wildfire and Ravager. The former gave us the mystery of whether Starfire would be reunited with him, while the latter presented the possibility of Slade's family, including Jericho, being further explored. Where were you planning on taking these two storylines?"

J. Torres: I certainly wanted Starfire to find Wildfire. The story I had in mind for that involved the Titans heading off into space again. As for Slade's family, I had rough ideas for more Ravager, possibly meeting Jericho, but nothing concrete for Slade's re-appearance. We were planning to bring him back at some point, maybe #60, but we obviously didn't get that far. Maybe if we ever got to do an annual or special, it would make perfect sense to go big and use someone like Slade or maybe Brother Blood."

J also reiterates that, for TTG fans who want to see a series followup, "the best thing they can do I think is to keep buying the trades and collections as they come. They can also write to Johnny DC and let him know what they thought of our last few issues. That sort of thing, to let the powers that be know that there's still interest."

And in related news (for those keeping track), World's Finest also has the sale numbers for March 2008's DC animated comic titles. TTG's issue for that month, "Teen Titans Go!" #53, came in at 2nd highest for sales, right behind JLU.
