TT "Judas Contract" animated movie update (also: contest reminder, Win exclusive TT stuff!)

Newsarama recently interviewed "The New Teen Titans" co-creator Marv Wolfman, who's provided the script for the upcoming animated movie adaption of the classic "The Judas Contract" Titans story, about his recent work for this direct-to-video adaption among other things:

NRAMA: How close is it to the original comics?

MW: The original comics were a year and a half long storyline ending in the five-part Judas Contract story and The Judas Contract movie is 72 minutes. So we had to make a lot of changes in terms of secondary plot. The main thrust of the story is 100% identical. It’s stronger in some places than we were able to do in 1985 because it’s now 2007 so we were able to take certain characters make them stronger than we had before. We made some small changes to simplify the story like we don’t have Jericho in there.

Marv adds that Jericho was excluded for lack of enough character development time, and that more focus was given on the rest of the Titans as a result. He reaffirms that this animated "The Judas Contract" movie will not be associated with the animated series, and will be aimed at older audiences as "a very strong PG-13 based on the comic, not the cartoon show." When asked about fellow "The New Teen Titans" co-creator and artist George Perez's involvement, Marv says that he was to be the art designer, but ended up being too busy. Fortunately, the animated movie will still use his artwork from the comics as a basis.

A big reminder, and an update, for our special DVD-owners contest:

The June 10th, 2007 deadline is approaching fast!

We've also decided to allow entries from those who purchased the Teen Titans "Complete Third Season" DVD as well, as success for the "current" TT DVDs would be inclusive. So if you're an owner of either the "Trouble in Tokyo" DVD or the "Complete Third Season" DVD, you're eligible to win exclusive Teen Titans stuff! We'll be giving away San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Teen Titans toys, convention press cards for the show, comic books, and a nice surprise or two.

So to recap:
How to enter: Send your name, and a scan or photo of your receipt (or other proof of purchase) for your "Trouble in Tokyo" and/or "Complete Third Season" DVD to contests@titansgo.net. If you purchased either DVD online and only have a digital receipt, send us a scan or photo of that. After the deadline hits, we will randomly pick winners from all entries sent in to us.

"But, what if I..."

Big update on TTG's status (also: Titans crew on new "Transformers" show!)
Posted by Butch on May 9, 2007 @ 12:58 am EST - Link

Some good news regarding TTG's current state: Fan letters sent in to DC Comics urging them against the possible cancellation of TT show-based comic "Teen Titans Go!" are being read and responded to. "NevermoreRaven" from the TitansGo.net forums sent a letter and received this response from none other than DC's President Paul Levitz:

"Thank you for your recent letters. I do not think we have officially ended Teen Titans Go! But the time is certainly near. With the animated TV series wrapped up and sales of the comic always having been fairly modest, it is time to make room for new projects. I hope you will enjoy most of them as much as you did Teen Titans GO!"

A more positive response from DC's Coordinating Editor Jann Jones:

"We love Teen Titans GO! and we are very proud of the work J and Todd have done. We're currently trying to figure out the future of the book. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions with us."

The part about TTG's sales being "fairly modest" may be questionable, but the fact that DC is aware of the comic's fan support and are "trying to figure out" its future is a good sign. Since Paul is reading/responding (and is farther up the company ladder than Dan DiDio), we now encourage everyone to continue writing letters of support to save "Teen Titans Go!" and to address them to Paul Levitz.

Send your letters (please keep them courteous!) to:
Paul Levitz (and/or: Dan DiDio; Tom Palmer Jr.; "Johnny DC")

TTG writer J. Torres posted at Comic Bloc's forums that the "Teen Titans Go!" schedule is currently, but tentatively, up to #47. Issue #47 will be a 2-stories-in-1 issue featuring Starfire and Raven, and a retelling of Robin's origin as drawn by Teen Titans director Michael Chang! With more planned for TTG past #47, losing the series soon after would be a huge loss. Keep on writing letters everyone, DC is listening and responding!

The news is out: Teen Titans character designer Derrick Wyatt has been announced as the lead designer for Hasbro's upcoming new "Transformers" animated series! Hooray for Derrick, we're rooting for you!

Derrick confirms on his blog and adds a promo image for the show, as well as a link to this article from C21 Media with info on the show's order (2 seasons), distribution, and staff. Teen Titans' executive producer Sam Register is along for the ride, as well as several others from both the Titans production crew and voice-acting cast (Tom Kenny as Starscream!!).

Although no dates have been given for the show's debut, Tara Strong's site says it'll be out shortly after the big movie this year. Tara says she'll be voicing "Sari", one of the show's regulars (who she notes is "not a Transformer ... just a little girl!"). It's not Titans, but with Derrick at the character design controls and others from Teen Titans on staff, "Transformers: Animated" will be a show to look out for.
