TT Judas Contract movie put on hold?
Posted by Butch on February 28, 2008 @ 10:32 pm EST - Link

Is the animated adaption movie of "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract" in trouble? Seems so. We'd been informed by fan Andrew Laubacher with an email to the movie's script writer Marv Wolfman (who wrote the original Titans "Judas Contract" storyline), that the "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract" animated adaption movie has been put on hold by Warner Bros. Today, World's Finest has confirmed it.

Marv ("The New Teen Titans" co-creator/writer) himself completed writing the script for the highly anticipated movie project last year, but the project was never put through final production. Thanks to Andrew for letting us know about this. Click here to read Andrew's email to Marv Wolfman, as well as Marv's email response.

Apparently, Warner Bros is putting the animated "Judas Contract" movie on hold because they're not convinced enough people recognize the Teen Titans as a brand. A huge shock, considering the incredible popularity of the animated series (and all other current branch outs for the Titans thus far). Note: this animated "The Judas Contract" movie is not in line with the Teen Titans animated series, and is instead based on the Teen Titans comic story of the same name, as created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Oddly, while "The Judas Contract" was originally slated to be next after "Justice League: The New Frontier" (which came out this week), it is now pushed aside by the upcoming "Batman: Gotham Knight" anime movie, as well as previews for the Wonder Woman animated movie. Meanwhile, not a peep about "The Judas Contract". A faster release for the Batman anime movie is understandable (as promotion for this year's "The Dark Knight" film), but there'd been little news about Wonder Woman's animated movie compared to Teen Titans' Judas Contract, whose script has long been done.

What can be done: Marv suggests that if enough people write to WB Animation asking about the "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract" movie, they may realize how much demand there really is, and finally put it through final production. According to World's Finest, here are the WB folks you should send your letters to:

Titans at Toy Fair '08 (and: more on TTG's final issue & TTG #52)
Posted by Butch on February 26, 2008 @ 11:34 pm EST - Link

Titans sightings at Toy Fair last week! A couple of interesting Teen Titans toys were newly unveiled at the Mattel showbooth for this month's Toy Fair 2008 tradeshow event in New York (Feb. 17th - 20th). Sighted by Newsarama, the toys are:

(click the links for photos)
- Cyborg - "DC Super Friends" series: the figure strongly resembles his animated series design, also reflected in his current comic design. This will be part of Mattel's "DC Super Friends" toy line, which is geared towards a younger audience (in tandem with DC Comics' upcoming "Super Friends" kids comic series). Is that an oversized arm cannon, or is Cy really happy to see us?

- (is it really...) Deathstroke the Terminator - "The Dark Knight" movie toys: better known to animated Titans fans as Slade, this figure looks like a pretty major indication that good ol' Slade just might be appearing in this year's "The Dark Knight" Batman film!

Great to see Titans, especially animated Titans influence, staying strong in the toy department. Click here for Newsarama's report with more photos of Mattel's DC Comics toys (like more Titans with Wonder Girl, Robin, and Deathstroke for the DCU Infinite and Classic lines).

With "Teen Titans Go!" nearing the end of its 55 issue run, series writer J. Torres popped by our site forum to give some insight on TTG's finale, issue #55:

J. Torres: "I can't remember exactly when I was told #55 would be the last issue, but it wasn't that long ago... I do remember coming up with both the cover idea and plot in one afternoon... and that said, since it was a bit of a "rush job," when it came time to script the story, I ended up changing a lot. Biggest change is that the Hive 5 are not the main villains. I thought of them as the villains for the same "full circle" reason as the first issue cover homage, but I decided instead on a different villain in the end. There are also quite a number of cameos in the issue since it's the last."

J also notes a few things about Teen Titans Go! #52 (which hits stores tomorrow!) on his blog:

"The name Alex Serra should be familiar to TTG readers from "Biography of a Beast Boy." And you'll see the name Joe Quinones again (along with Todd Nauck) in next month's two-in-one issue. In the meantime, here a few more names for you to look out for: Jesse Quick, Changling, and Protector..."

New heroes in TTG #52 this week, and a big change-up and cameo call for the final issue of the comic series. Not to mention all the things we'll see inbetween. The "Teen Titans Go!" series may be ending, but as expected, it's going out with a blast. Don't forget about the possibility of a followup series if TTG is successful enough. Fans can make it happen. Pick up "Teen Titans Go!" #52 this week, and send fan letters to TTG's letter column. And as always, share the love!

Comics update & TTG's final issue (also: update on TTG's end & TT crew at WonderCon)
Posted by Butch on February 21, 2008 @ 2:07 am EST - Link

DC Comics has released their comics solicits for May 2008, including final issue "Teen Titans Go!" #55, "Teen Titans: Year One" #5, "Tiny Titans" #4, "DC Special: Raven" #3, and the first issue of new mini-series "DC Special: Cyborg". Click below for covers and details for each title:

- DC Special: Raven #3 (in stores May 7, 2008)
- Tiny Titans #4 (in stores May 14, 2008)
- DC Special: Cyborg #1 (in stores May 21, 2008)
- Teen Titans Go! #55 (in stores May 28, 2008)
- Teen Titans: Year One #5 (in stores May 28, 2008)

Here it is, the final issue of "Teen Titans Go!" as we know it. An important thing about the issue's cover that fans may've noticed is that it directly refers to the cover of TTG's very first issue. On TTG #1's cover, the main five Titans were pulling down posters for the animated series. Here on TTG #55's cover, they're at a similar street corner in similar poses, putting up "Robin wants you!" posters. It serves the final issue's story well, which notes that while the team has expanded across the globe, the main five Titans are coming back for one last round against the HIVE.

On lesser notes, it's amusing to see the Tiny Titans #4 cover poking fun at the "disco collar" on Nightwing's first costume. On the cover for Teen Titans: Year One #5, artist Karl Kerschl inserts his Abominable Charles Christopher character as a stuffed toy and poster.

Another good looking month for Titans comics! As for more on final issue TTG #55, read on.

An addendum to our previous announcement: It seems "Teen Titans Go!" truly is at an end (at least, in its current form).

TTG writer J. Torres clarified to say (aside from encouraging fans to keep buying the series) that fans should write letters of support to TTG's letter column by Johnny DC, instead of letters to DC Comics protesting TTG's cancellation. This, in addition to TTG #55's telling cover and description, make it clear the issue is meant to be the series finale. Not only does it make a fitting resolution to TTG #1's cover and story, it's also very reminiscent of the resolute ending of episode "Titans Together" from Season 5 of the animated series.

But, don't forget: Although the "Teen Titans Go!" series as we know it will end, the chance of a followup series still stands if there is enough demand. Therefore, we strongly urge all fans to continue supporting TTG by buying the remaining issues and collected books. And of course, spread the word about TTG!

Finally, raise a glass or two to J. Torres and the rest of TTG's awesome crew. Here's to all their great work in bringing us an incredible monument to the Teen Titans animated series, as well as a beloved comic title in its own right. Thanks for the laughs, twists, character delving, beautiful artwork, and everything. Cheers!

Albeit small, there is some Titans crew presence at comic convention WonderCon in San Francisco this weekend (Feb. 22nd - 24th). Teen Titans producer Glen Murakami will be attending the event, and anyone at the premiere of the upcoming Spiderman animated series will get to hear the latest music scores of Dynamic Music Partners (the music composer group for Teen Titans)!

No details yet on Glen doing any artist signings, but here's info for the Spiderman premiere:
- "The Spectacular Spider-Man: First Episode Premiere and Panel" on Saturday, Feb. 23rd @ 3:00 - 4:00 PM (Room 104)

Have fun, WonderCon attendees! If anyone actually spots Glen, be sure to give him a shout.

Winners of the TT Season 4 DVD Give-away! (and: update on TTG's end & Tiny Titans' debut)
Posted by Butch on February 15, 2008 @ 11:56 pm EST - Link

It took some time to determine them, but at last we have our winners for the TT Season 4 DVD Give-away! As our top picks for the contest, these three Titans fan-artists will walk away with their own copy of the "Teen Titans: The Complete Fourth Season" DVD:

- Tommy Wiggins for his beautiful drawing, "Moonlight Dance"!
- Morgan Huggins for the unique Teen Titans car mod!
- And last but certainly not least, Macklin Xu for an awesome set of Teen Titans figure sculptures

Congratulations to each one of you, expect to be contacted soon to receive your prizes. It wasn't easy picking only three winners, as there were so many great entries. So here's a shout out to the rest of the best:

Honorable Mentions: Song's "Broken" video, Ania Dehnel's "Birthmark" comic, Mariano Chacon's "Raven/Trigon", Menachem Jerenberg's "With apologies to Bill Watterson", Christine Molina's "Teen Titans New Year", and Lucy Jepson's "They've Got a Theory!" video

Click here for the rest of this contest's entries. A big thanks to everyone who entered this DVD Give-away! Stay tuned for our future contests.

Following up our last update about the latest cancellation threat for "Teen Titans Go!", series writer J. Torres responds to say that supporting TTG by picking up its remaining issues and collected books is the best course of action. Continuing to write letters of support for TTG to DC Comics is highly recommended as well. Finally, DC will continue to put out collected books for "Teen Titans Go!", so those worried about not finding the issues after their print runs dry up will have some relief.

J also states that there is a chance of some kind of follow-up for "Teen Titans Go!" if the demand is there, so there's definitely still hope. One more interesting thing: remember back in early October when DC decided to give TTG an extension due to fan demands (aka. success!)? It was originally decided the extension would only last up to issue #54, the issue with Wonder Girl II's debut. After that, there was a chance for a different format and schedule. Now we have up to issue #55, but no word of TTG's future. Seems DC is indecisive about TTG again, so the message fans can give them may make it clear: Keep "Teen Titans Go!" alive!

(in related news, JLU subscribers got a cancel notice too: in a similar fate, their notice stated issue slack would be filled with Johnny DC's new "Super Friends" title)

To celebrate the debut of "Tiny Titans" #1 this week, Newsarama interviewed the team behind the upcoming kids series from DC Comics. Now despite what "Teen Titans Go!" fans may think is the real reason DC decided to cancel TTG (even though that subscriber letter makes it easy to blame "Tiny Titans"), the official stance is that "Tiny Titans" is not intended to be a replacement for it. Besides, it's hard to stay mad for long at such cute lil Titans.

Art: "Yeah. It's got all kinds of things that comics readers will find funny. But you have to just have fun with it. I know some people are going to be upset when they see two Wonder Girls together, or like, Barbara Gordon with Kid Devil. But just have fun. It's kind of like the Teen Titans meet Peanuts."

Thanks to everyone who made this Give-away's entries a joy to experience. We should have our three DVD winners announced in a few days, so stay tuned!

Unfortunate news: The "Teen Titans Go!" comic series will be ending with issue #55, according to a recent letter sent out by DC Comics to monthly subscribers of the title. Click here for more details about the letter (thanks to zenz3n & TGN forumer Highlander for the heads up). Issue #55 will reach stores in late May 2008, and after that...TTG will appear to be no more.

Any plans to renew TTG with a quarterly format (as a possibility suggested by TTG writer J. Torres) were not detailed, and subscribers with issues left in their order were informed the slack would be automatically fulfilled with "Tiny Titans" issues instead (unless otherwise requested). So despite DC's recent backing of TTG (new larger and nicer collection format, response to TTG fan mobs, etc.), it seems TTG may be getting cut with no strings attached.

Although details behind the decision are currently unknown, we ask Titans fans to once again come together to urge DC Comics to rethink this and continue "Teen Titans Go!". Back when DC was going to first cancel TTG, fan efforts had succeeded in extending the series up to and even past the big issue #50 mark, and raised DC's awareness of TTG's huge fanbase. This isn't a hopeless fight; DC listened to the fans and went into action before, so let's have them listen again!

Raven now more "animated"? - "DC Special: Raven" (also: Titans VAs on Murakami's new Ben 10)
Posted by Butch on February 1, 2008 @ 2:52 am EST - Link

Did Raven's popularity with fans in the animated series lead to Titans co-creator Marv Wolfman's latest Raven solo series? How much does animated Raven influence DC Comics' latest incarnation (literally) of the character? In a recent interview with The Pulse, Marv reveals that and more for the upcoming "DC Special: Raven" mini-series he's writing. In contrast to the original he created, Marv says this current Raven "has more of a sense of dark humor like the cartoon show, whereas the original probably had no sense of humor whatsoever."

On creating "DC Special: Raven" with former Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) series artist Damion Scott:

Marv: "Damion's art was magnificent. I had no idea what to expect as I'd seen little of it, but I wrote full scripts and when the pages started coming in I was blown away. They are incredible. I am very happy with the story; it's different and it can be read by people coming to Raven because of the Titans cartoon show as well as older Titans readers. I think I've laid the ground work for a Raven series aimed at the female audience (and guys, too) that isn't exploitive as many female comics are, yet still filled with action. Each issue is one 24 hour day in Raven's life, leading to what I hope is a powerful conclusion. The story is filled with emotion, is somewhat horrifying and yet funny in other places, and plays off of Raven's strengths and weaknesses. I've obviously written all five parts by now (the earlier questions in this interview were answered as I was still writing them) and the art is done so I hope people like it as much as I do and for once I think it's a five-part story that deserves to be five parts."

Issue #1 of the five-part "DC Special: Raven" mini-series will hit stores on March 5th, 2008. Marv says he has more big ideas, but a successful run for this mini-series will determine if Raven's solo stories continue. Raven written by Marv Wolfman, with fresh artwork by Damion Scott; what more could be asked for (...other than Marv on the upcoming "Titans" series, that is)? Click here for the full interview.

Terra and Beast Boy reunited at last? Well, at least their voice actors will be.

In a press release today, Teen Titans producer Glen Murakami's revamp series for Ben 10 has been officially announced! Not only that, but it seems even more of the crew from Teen Titans is onboard. Voice actors Ashley Johnson (Terra) and Greg Cipes (Beast Boy) will provide voices for Gwen and Kevin, with Legion's Yuri Lowenthal as Ben. Glen Murakami himself is the series' supervising producer, with JLU veteran Dwayne McDuffie previously confirmed as story editor.

Titled "Ben 10: Alien Force", the new series will premiere on Cartoon Network with a full-hour special in Spring 2008. Since Alien Force is set five years into the current show's future, the show will be allowed more mature themes. Click here for the full press release.
