Marv on "Raven" series (also: Titans film news, TT comics update & TT DVD Give-away reminder) Posted by Butch on December 20, 2007 @ 2:41 am EST - Link
Raven-creator Marv Wolfman returns to write the Titan empath in her upcoming solo mini-series, and it looks like animated Raven fans will be in for a treat! Comic Book Resources interviewed Titans co-creator/writer Marv Wolfman on his work for the upcoming "DC Special: Raven" (art by Batgirl's Damion Scott, and Robert Campanella). Marv talks about his intentions for this "new" Raven (now in a teenaged body following events of the current ongoing Teen Titans comic), how she is different from how he wrote her in "The New Teen Titans", her much-needed development, and much more:
Marv Wolfman: "The cartoon show played her as more goth and sarcastic and her voice made her irresistible. Truth to tell, I loved her cartoon presentation and added just a bit of that to this new interpretation while keeping her rooted to what I did, as well as what Geoff Johns later did with her."
Not only is animated Raven an influence for this title, now Raven herself highly resembles her cartoon counterpart (right down to the identical costume and gray skin), as shown on the first issue's cover. The long-awaited "DC Special: Raven" is a 5-issue mini-series focusing on Raven's new start on life, including highschool. Issue #1 hits stores on March 5th, 2008; be sure to keep an eye out for this one!

Wizard comics magazine interviewed Mark Verheiden, the screenwriter for the upcoming live-action Teen Titans film. Verheiden discusses how the movie will be similar to the X-men movies in terms of maturity and character focus, as well as more realistic. He adds that the script is still being written, and that the Titans will be facing something epic:
Mark: "It is a very powerful threat and it will present situations I don’t think we’ve seen before, which is always fun to try and come up with. And it will be on a fairly massive scale. Comic book fans will not be unfamiliar with it."

DC Comics released their March 2008 comic line-up this week, including new issues for "Teen Titans Go!", "Tiny Titans", and "Teen Titans: Year One":
TTG #53 is a double-story issue with the Doom Patrol's return, and the debut of two new villains (with Kid Flash and Jinx as guests). "Tiny Titans" #2 introduces its version of the Fearsome Five as they try to take over the playground, and BB develops a crush on a certain rock-throwing girl. Also, "Teen Titans: Year One" artist Karl Kerschl has a larger cover for issue #3 on his blog. With all this, ontop of the main Teen Titans series and the debut of Marv's "DC Special: Raven" mini-series, March is flowing with Titans goodness. That makes three new Titan titles debuting in three consecutive months, starting in January! We can't wait.

Publisher's Weekly has provided a 3 page preview for "Tiny Titans"! It features the Tiny Titans at their school, "Sidekick City Elementary". The most entertaining bit is (Ravager) Rose's reaction to having dear ol' dad Slade for school principle, wearing a business suit, even. Yes, repeating that again. Principle Slade in a business suit. The "Tiny Titans" series will kick off in February next year, with the first issue hitting stores on Wednesday, February 13th. Be sure to give this highly amusing all-ages series by Franco Aureliani (writer) and Art Baltazar (artist) a read when it makes its debut!
