Teen Titans crew photos (also: series background artwork!)
Posted by Butch on January 30, 2006 @ 7:15 pm EST - Link

Teen Titans background designer Hakjoon Kang has put up a couple of crew photos on his xanga, namely the ones spotted in "Episode 257-494". He and others like storyboarder Irineo Maramba and character designer Derrick Wyatt, are among the couch zombies seen during the episode's TV newsflash.

"The photos were all shot in our conference room, but since the series of photos had to seem like they were from different locations, I had to go back in and change out the floors and walls. There were another two photos for each of the four sets, but we dropped them in favor of a more effective two frame approach. It was a lot of work for a couple seconds of screen time, but it was fun to watch"

For more, check the link here.

Hakjoon's also put up several beautiful pieces of series background artwork on his blog, along with commentary:

- Destruct-o-tron (colored)
- T-Ship launch pad (colored)

It's the color versions of the Destruct-o-tron from "Employee of the Month", and the T-Ship's launch pad, colored and cleaned up by the very talented series background painters. For more Titans production stuff and Hakjoon Kang's other artwork, visit his blog.

Posted by Butch on January 28, 2006 @ 6:21 pm EST - Link

We have 30 screens for JLU episode "Patriot Act", in which Speedy makes an appearance, sporting the same general design as in Teen Titans. This episode has yet to air in the US, but we'll likely catch it with the new JLU episodes premiering February 11th.

episode description: When an out of control super soldier threatens Metropolis, Green Arrow leads seven non-powered Justice Leaguers, including Crimson Avenger and Shining Knight, in a battle they can't hope to win.

Our current Teen Titans DVD Give-away (offering two DVDs) will end tomorrow Sunday, at the end of the day. If you haven't entered yet, be sure to get your entry to us by then. We will give a grace period of three days for mailed in entries.

Speedy shows up in JLU! (also: Cyborg on Smallville update)
Posted by Butch on January 25, 2006 @ 9:15 pm EST - Link

Speedy makes an appearance in Justice League Unlimited episode "Patriot Act", which aired in the UK two days ago (but has yet to air stateside). He is shown fighting alongside his mentor Green Arrow, and sports the same costume and hairstyle as he does in Teen Titans. However, JLU's version of Speedy is noticeably older and bulkier in build. Additionally, he's voiced by Mike Erwin, who provided the voice for Speedy in Teen Titans.

Teen Titans director Ben Jones reveals on the TitansGo.net forums that the decision to use Speedy in JLU was discussed beforehand between Glen Murakami and JLU producer Bruce Timm, to which Glen agreed. Due to exceedingly delayed JLU episode premieres, this decision obviously had little to do with Teen Titans' cancellation.

On a related note, new JLU episodes will finally begin airing February 11th, so hopefully we'll catch Speedy in "Patriot Act" in that first wave.

Awhile ago, Kryptonsite reported that Smallville episode "Cyborg" featuring actor Lee Thompson Young as Vic Stone (aka. Cyborg) would air on February 16th. TV Guide confirms the date, so get those VCRs ready.

Kryptonsite also points to a recent TV Guide interview with the show's co-creator Al Gough, who offers details on what to expect from "Cyborg":

"We always liked that character from the Teen Titans. He's basically a kid who was a star high-school football player, had a full ride to USC, and then was in a massive car accident. LuthorCorp, experimenting on what's essentially bionics, sort of put him back together - but potentially for a more nefarious scheme than just helping out this kid. The issues he deals with, it's like Robocop - 'How much man am I? How much of a machine am I?'"

"Things Change" screens & details (also: Jericho & Argent character models in Official Art gallery)
Posted by Butch on January 19, 2006 @ 7:56 pm EST - Link

We've put up 156 screenshots from the highly controversial, last Teen Titans episode of Season 5 (and perhaps ever), "Things Change". The episode details page for "Things Change" has also been updated with notes, cameos, and more.

excerpt:
- Terra and her schoolmates attend the "Murakami School" (seen here), named after Teen Titans series producer Glen Murakami.
- The direction style of several of this episode's scenes (especially the school ones) is inspired in large part by Studio Gainax's "Kareshi Kanouji no Jijou" ("His And Her Circumstances", or "Karekano" for short), right down to Terra and her schoolmates' uniforms, the sliding "frames" used for perspective during one of Beast Boy and Terra's talks (seen here), and the general ambience. By genre, "Karekano" is a romantic comedy/drama placed in a school setting, so any similarities in the tone of this episode are probably more than coincidential.

We've got more new character model sheets in the Official Artwork gallery! Following the new Titan heroes' success against the Brotherhood of Evil in "Titans Together", the gallery has been updated with sheets for the mute body-snatching Jericho, and energy-form wielder Argent.

"Titans Together" screens & details (and: 2 DVD Give-away)
Posted by Butch on January 15, 2006 @ 7:24 pm EST - Link

We have 195 screenshots from the episode that has exceeded all expectations, "Titans Together". The "Titans Together" episode details have also been updated with cameos, notes and more. Enjoy!

excerpt:
- Jericho's power of posessing another person's body by initiating eye contact is finally revealed in this episode, and to full effect. Throughout the Teen Titans comics, if a host is knocked unconscious, Jericho is able to enter the body and fully control it (even being able to speak despite his own muteness) as he did with Cinderblock (seen here). However, if the host is conscious like when Jericho took control of Private HIVE, he is still able to exert at least some control over the body.
- After their absence in "Calling All Titans", Kid Flash arrives on the scene with Jinx, who has clearly decided to work on the side of good. She proves herself effective in battle, by attacking her HIVE Five teammates and Madame Rouge.

New episode "Titans Together" tomorrow (and "Things Change" on Monday)
Posted by Butch on January 13, 2006 @ 7:19 pm EST - Link

In the next three days, we will see the final two episodes of Season 5 and possibly the finale of the entire Teen Titans series unfold. "Titans Together" airs tomorrow Saturday at 8:00 PM, and "Things Change" will be airing on Monday, January 16th at 4:00 PM (both EST/PST).

"Titans Together" will resolve the final battle between the Brotherhood of Evil and the remaining uncaptured Titans (among them, Beast Boy and Jericho). Comics Continuum had edited their description for the episode to read that Beast Boy is in fact the "one brave hero" to slip through, and we have confirmed this to be true with a production crew member. How this epic story unfolds tomorrow remains to be seen. As far as final episode "Things Change" is concerned, according to our production source, what occurs in it will have made it impossible for the series to continue as it has before (if Teen Titans was to be ordered for additional episodes). An irreversible milestone is sure to surface, making both episodes definitely not be missed. Also, [removed] fans will be in for a real treat.

Cartoon Network has been airing a preview clip for "Titans Together", featuring Beast Boy and the other uncaptured Titans taking on the Brotherhood. Thanks to Miss Starfire of the RS Shrine (and Sphere from Titans Tower for pointing it out), you can download and view the videoclip here:

- Toonami: "Titans Together" preview clip (.wmv file, 7.7 MB)

"Titans Together" description: All seems lost for young heroes across the globe: they have been spread far and wide, their lines of communication have been severed, and one by one, the Brotherhood of Evil takes them down. But as The Brain claims his victory is assured, one brave hero manages to slip thorough the Brotherhood of Evil's grasp.

"Things Change" description: After months of fighting the Brotherhood of Evil around the globe, the Teen Titans are finally back home. But a walk through the city reveals that things are no longer as they remembered. And while Beast Boy wants everything to be just like it was in the past, he has to face the fact that in life things change.

It's been an incredible ride with nowhere to go but up, let's sit back and enjoy it.

New character sheets (Psimon, Cheshire) & prop designs in Official Art gallery
Posted by Butch on January 11, 2006 @ 7:24 pm EST - Link

Another update bursting with sweet, sweet Teen Titans production artwork. First, to celebrate their awesome appearances in "Calling All Titans" (as only villains of their caliber could), the Official Art gallery has been updated with character model sheets for: the brain-under-glass psychic Psimon, and venomous super-assassin Cheshire.

- Psimon - character model
- Cheshire - character model

Secondly, the gallery's also been updated with two new prop designs:

- Soto's ship concepts
- T-ship sketch

Both prop drawings were done by the great Norm Ryang, Teen Titans prop designer. More of his artwork for the show can be seen in our gallery, and at his art blog (along with other neat stuff). For these 4 additions, and alot more of the show's production artwork, visit our Official Art gallery.

Yet more art from the Teen Titans crew! Gotta love it.

Character designer Brianne Drouhard recently posted drawings for the mutated gingerbread men as seen in episode "Mother Mae-Eye" on her blog. Check em out here:

- Evil gingerbread men

Also, background designer Hakjoon Kang recently put up some very detailed pieces of background artwork for: the "Destruct-O-Tron" (as seen in "Employee of the Month"), and the Titans Tower operations room (you know, that "living room" seen in nearly every episode).

- Teen Titans: Destruct-O-Tron

"Calling All Titans" screens & details (also: J. Torres reveals TTG's future)
Posted by Butch on January 9, 2006 @ 6:30 pm EST - Link

We've added 153 screenshots for the latest episode "Calling All Titans" for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

The "Calling All Titans" episode details page has also been updated with cameos, notes of interest, and more.

excerpt:
- Pantha served as sort of a surrogate mother to Baby Wildebeest throughout Teen Titans comics in the 1990s, referred to by her concern for him in this episode after being told he's been captured.
-The powerful mind-bending psychic, Psimon, goes into action for the first time (seen here). Psimon is also one of the original members of DC Comics' "Fearsome Five", a villainous group that confronted the Titans many times, and consisted of members Jinx, Mammoth, Gizmo, Plasmus, and Warp (among others).

Superhero Report's owner Chezvid alerted us about an interview he conducted with "Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres. The interview details J's experience with writing the show-based comic "Teen Titans Go!", what freedoms he's allowed, what's coming up for TTG's future (including new character appearances), and even some insight on the Teen Titans show itself. Another new art blog from a Teen Titans production crew member! This time Hakjoon Kang's, series background designer. He's put up Teen Titans work that offers an interesting look at what went into designing Titans Tower (check out the awesome lower-case t Tower). Other Teen Titans stuff includes a scenic exterior shot of the Tower, and the outdoor mall as seen in episode "Mother Mae-Eye".

- Hakjoon Kang's art blog

There's also designs from other shows he's worked on, including Jackie Chan Adventures and Big Guy & Rusty. And if Hakjoon's name sounds familiar, it might be due to Beast Boy's secret maneuver from "Episode 257-494": the Hakjoon Kang. Anyway, check out his blog for peeks at the production side of Teen Titans.
