Titans at Toy Fair '08 (and: more on TTG's final issue & TTG #52) Posted by Butch on February 26, 2008 @ 11:34 pm EST
Titans sightings at Toy Fair last week! A couple of interesting Teen Titans toys were newly unveiled at the Mattel showbooth for this month's Toy Fair 2008 tradeshow event in New York (Feb. 17th - 20th). Sighted by Newsarama, the toys are:
(click the links for photos)
- Cyborg - "DC Super Friends" series: the figure strongly resembles his animated series design, also reflected in his current comic design. This will be part of Mattel's "DC Super Friends" toy line, which is geared towards a younger audience (in tandem with DC Comics' upcoming "Super Friends" kids comic series). Is that an oversized arm cannon, or is Cy really happy to see us?
- (is it really...) Deathstroke the Terminator - "The Dark Knight" movie toys: better known to animated Titans fans as Slade, this figure looks like a pretty major indication that good ol' Slade just might be appearing in this year's "The Dark Knight" Batman film!
Great to see Titans, especially animated Titans influence, staying strong in the toy department. Click here for Newsarama's report with more photos of Mattel's DC Comics toys (like more Titans with Wonder Girl, Robin, and Deathstroke for the DCU Infinite and Classic lines).
With "Teen Titans Go!" nearing the end of its 55 issue run, series writer J. Torres popped by our site forum to give some insight on TTG's finale, issue #55:
J. Torres: "I can't remember exactly when I was told #55 would be the last issue, but it wasn't that long ago... I do remember coming up with both the cover idea and plot in one afternoon... and that said, since it was a bit of a "rush job," when it came time to script the story, I ended up changing a lot. Biggest change is that the Hive 5 are not the main villains. I thought of them as the villains for the same "full circle" reason as the first issue cover homage, but I decided instead on a different villain in the end. There are also quite a number of cameos in the issue since it's the last."
"The name Alex Serra should be familiar to TTG readers from "Biography of a Beast Boy." And you'll see the name Joe Quinones again (along with Todd Nauck) in next month's two-in-one issue. In the meantime, here a few more names for you to look out for: Jesse Quick, Changling, and Protector..."
New heroes in TTG #52 this week, and a big change-up and cameo call for the final issue of the comic series. Not to mention all the things we'll see inbetween. The "Teen Titans Go!" series may be ending, but as expected, it's going out with a blast. Don't forget about the possibility of a followup series if TTG is successful enough. Fans can make it happen. Pick up "Teen Titans Go!" #52 this week, and send fan letters to TTG's letter column. And as always, share the love!
