Issue 42: "Pieces of Me"

Description:
Raven's going to pieces! Her multicolored Emoticlones have broken free and are on the run. How will the Teen Titans get all of them back together?

Notes:

  • On the opening page of the story, the Titans are coming out from a movie theater that is showing "Doomsday", "Judas Contract", and "New Frontier". This is a direct reference to the first three animated movies to be released by Warner Bros and DC Comics, as adaptions of DC's epic comic stories (specifically, "Superman: Doomsday", "Teen Titans: The Judas Contract", and "Justice League: The New Frontier").
  • Timmy, Melvin, and Teether (from the episode "Hide and Seek"), HIVE student XL-Terrestrial, and "Goth boy" all make an appearance in this issue.
  • At one point, one of Raven's "emoticlones" says to Robin "I bet you look good in shorts." This refers to Robin's classic costume, which had incredibly short pants instead of the contemporary regular pants.

Biography of a Beast Boy
[ Fullsize ] [ # ]
Issue 45: "Biography of a Beast Boy" & "Cyborg's Story"

Writer: J. Torres
Interior Artwork: Alex Serra and Fabio Laguna
Cover by: Todd Nauck
Release date: July 25, 2007
Discussion thread: click here

Description:
Special Secret Origins issue! The real stories behind Beast Boy and Cybrog's pasts can finally be revealed!

Notes:

  • Both story parts of this issue take place during a camping trip, as a nice nod to the "The New Teen Titans" solo issue mini-series that provided readers with origin stories for each of George Perez and Marv Wolfmans' character additions to the Teen Titans team. All four issues (each for Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven) were parts of a whole story that featured the Teen Titans on a camping trip.
  • In "Biography of a Beast Boy", Beast Boy fabricates several times throughout his retelling of his origin; one fabrication has his parents resemble movie hero Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider's Lara Croft.
  • This issue features the first "appearance" of the Justice League in the "Teen Titans Go!" series, during another of Beast Boy's fabrications. This is the closest fans will get to seeing how the Justice League (including Batman) would look if they were in the Teen Titans animated universe.
  • Due to a coloring error, the monkey shown biting Beast Boy in his origin story is brown instead of green.
  • In "Cyborg's Story", as a foreshadowing nod, Victor Stone's car license plate reads "CBG-010" before the near fatal collision that leads to him becoming Cyborg.
  • In his origin retelling, Cyborg fills in what happened to him right up to the point before meeting the rest of the Titans during the events of episode "Go!"
  • At the end of his story, Cyborg alludes to the events of episode "Cyborg the Barbarian", stating that he and girlfriend Sarah Simms had "met in another life." This is despite claims from the Teen Titans production crew that the character in question (Sarasim from the aforementioned episode) was not intended to be based on Sarah Simms.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time
[ Fullsize ] [ # ]
Issue 48: "Wrong Place, Wrong Time"

Writer: J. Torres
Interior Artwork: Todd Nauck and Lary Stucker
Cover by: Todd Nauck
Release date: October 31, 2007
Discussion thread: click here

Description:
Kilowatt is the lost Titan from the future! He helped the present-day Titans defeat the Brotherhood of Evil, but now he wants to go home. Will Raven and Herald be able to send him back to the future...or will he end up in the wrong place, wrong time?

Notes:

  • Writer J. Torres clarifies a mistake on this issue's cover, which incorrectly states the story is Kilowatt's first day as a Titan, when he actually debuted in Teen Titans Season 5.
  • This issue features many alternate realities, each with their own different and unique Teen Titans team.
  • Kilowatt first clashes with the "Teen Tyrants", which includes Aqualad and Speedy redesigned to resemble their more contemporary comic book forms, Tempest and Arsenal. The "Tyrants" team also includes Red Robin (an evil Robin using an alternate Robin's codename), Red Raven (a nod to her evil incarnation), and Blackfire
  • The Teen Tyrants' foes are the "Brotherhood of Justice", as a nod to the Brotherhood of Evil from Teen Titans Season 5.
  • Interestingly enough, Teen Tyrant member Red Raven highly resembles Jinx, with pink hair, gray skin, and the specific facial markings.
  • Additionally, the "Brotherhood of Justice" team includes the female Dr. Light, and good versions of Mammoth, Madame Rouge, and Psimon (wearing a very Braniac-esque faceguard).
  • The DC Comics "Multiverse" is confirmed to exist in the "Teen Titans Go!" world. The Multiverse is basically the existence of multiple parallel earths which mirror each other in vital ways, yet differ in specific ways and timelines.
  • Herald and Raven open up multiple portals to several earths. The portals show superheroes and villains of other worlds, including: Slobo and Secret (Young Justice), Malchior in dragon form, Cyborg the Barbarian, the Titanimals (from episode "Bunny Raven"), Nightwing (specifically from episode "How Long is Forever"), Super-D versions of the Teen Titans, Larry, White Raven, and last but not least...the original "Fab Five" Teen Titans team (Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Robin, Aqualad, and Speedy).
  • Kilowatt's own world features Teen Titan members from DC Comics' short-lived "Team Titans" books. Although the team is not named in this issue, it includes members Mirage (Raven counterpart), Nightwing (based on Team Titans member Nightrider), Batallion (Cyborg counterpart), and Kilowatt himself.
  • Writer J. Torres adds that Batallion's appearance was incorrectly colored, making him look exactly like Cyborg. Batallion's colors were meant to be more of an army green.
