Posted by Butch on April 29, 2008 @ 11:39 pm EST - Link
Good news this week for the Teen Titans Season 5 DVD! Instead of the previously announced July 22nd release date, the "Teen Titans: The Complete Fifth Season" DVD is now slated to release (much earlier) on July 8th, 2008!

Also, new info on the DVD extras has been revealed. The "Top Secret Files" bonus feature will include villain profiles for: Control Freak, Bob & The Source, Billy Numerous, Mother Mae-Eye, and Trigon, according to a WHV press release provided by World's Finest. An image of the DVD's back cover is also up at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

In related news, some early animated Titans adventures can be found in the upcoming DC Super Heroes: The Filmation Adventures DVD, slated to release this August. It will feature Fab Fivers Aqualad, Kid Flash, Speedy, and Wonder Girl (sans Robin, who's busy with Batman) in three animated episodes. Mark your calendars for these two DVDs with animated Titans, new and old, coming in a few months!

"Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres provides an awesome 5 page preview for TTG #54, which hits stores tomorrow. Do we also need to mention that TTG #54 is the second-to-last issue of the entire "Teen Titans Go!" series?

"Teen Titans Go!" #54 introduces Cassie Sandsmark (aka. Wonder Girl the 2nd) into the TTG universe. And if that's not enough, it seems we finally get a true "Winner Takes All" tournament for the Titan girls (with Pantha and Bumblebee joining in)! This and more in TTG #54, available tomorrow, so check out the preview and pick it up! (Reviews & feedback? Join the TTG #54 discussion at our forums)

Remember that cool Robin bank Monogram released a long while back? Our buddy Matt, owner of Legions of Gotham, is selling its (one and only) prototype sculpture, as created by Monogram's model artists.

It's literally one of a kind, so click here if you're interested in it or other rare & event-exclusive Batman and DC Animated related items, as Matt's a big collector of official product prototypes and the like.

Newsarama has interviewed Teen Titans producer Glen Murakami about his new series, Ben 10: Alien Force. As a revamp on the original Ben 10, Glen discusses the natural backlash against "Alien Force" from fans of the first show. He likens the reaction to the same ones he'd received for his past animated series, including Teen Titans.

Glen Murakami: "After doing Titans, I just didn’t want to repeat myself; that style or that approach. In a way it was the same situation when I first approached Titans, where it was decided to do the DC style in a way that wasn’t done before, that’s one of the reasons we went a little bit more anime with that. After that, I didn’t want to do the same thing again. It just didn’t seem appropriate. With Ben 10, we are deciding to go a little more like X-Files or Outer Limits. That was the thinking behind that."

The interview includes a short history of Glen's work in TV animation, the various early directions for "Ben 10: Alien Force", the reasons for some changes (ie. combining abilities for new alien Swamp Fire, etc.), series continuity, and more. Also, having Ashley Johnson and Greg Cipes (the voices of Terra and Beast Boy) as supporting characters Gwen and Kevin wasn't directly due to their work on Teen Titans. Though, it is nice to see romance sparking between the voice-acting pair's characters, for the third time now. Those crazy kids.

Titans comics in July '08 (and: TT GAP clothing?; TTG nominee; Marv & Starfire in NZ)
Posted by Butch on April 16, 2008 @ 11:25 pm EST - Link
This week DC Comics released their comics solicits for July 2008, the newly scheduled titles including "Tiny Titans" #6, "DC Special: Raven" #5 (the last for the mini-series), "DC Special: Cyborg" #3, and the collected book for TTG writer J. Torres' "Teen Titans Spotlight: Wonder Girl" mini-series. Click below for each title's cover and details:

- DC Special: Raven #5 (in stores July 2, 2008)
- Teen Titans Spotlight: Wonder Girl (in stores July 9, 2008)
- Tiny Titans #6 (in stores July 16, 2008)
- DC Special: Cyborg #3 (in stores July 23, 2008)

Tiny Titans gets new faces with Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) and Supergirl, plus a morning day routine with Trigon and Raven. J. Torres' work on Wonder Girl's (Cassie Sandsmark) mini-series gets collected too, so check it out in July if you missed its run. Easily Cassie's best characterization since "Young Justice".

Might there be an animated Teen Titans clothing line in the works for the GAP? "Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres posted on his blog about TTG comics seen in a GAP window display, and what they mean for DC characters in GAP's future:

J. Torres: "I was at the mall last week and as I walked past Gap Kids, I noticed one of the mannequins holding a Teen Titans Go comic! I took a second look and saw that there were Johnny DC comics throughout the window display. Most were TTG, but they also had an issue of Looney Tuness, Batman Strikes, and even Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #1..."

Turns out GAP will be churning out a new kids clothing line featuring DC Comics characters. With TTG prominently displayed in GAP stores, it looks like the animated and TTG Titans may get a different sort of revival! Click here for J's full post with more photos.

In related news, according to ToonZone, J. Torres has also been nominated for the 2008 Joe Shuster awards for its "Outstanding Canadian Comic Book Writer" category! Congratulations and way to go, J. We're rooting for you!

Titans creator/writer Marv Wolfman posted on his site that he, as well as Hynden Walch (voice of Starfire), will be attending this month's Armageddon Expo in New Zealand as special guests. If you're attending or in the area, check it out and give Marv and Starfire a visit!

Click here for Armageddon Expo's official site and details. If you miss the first event, no problem; Marv Wolfman and Hynden Walch will be attending both events in April (Wellington on April 19 - 20, and Christchurch on April 26 - 27).

After that, it will then be regularly scheduled for Saturdays @ 10:00 AM. And that's not all; to celebrate the big premiere, there will be a week-long schedule of events leading right up to it. Cartoon Network's "Ben 10: Alien Force" promo videos reveal an entirely new side (and higher maturity level) of the Ben 10 universe, with alot of that Glen Murakami polish showing through. Don't like the original Ben 10 show? Mark your calendar anyway, "Alien Force" will be worth it.

Description: In Ben 10: Alien Force 15-year-old Ben Tennyson chooses to once again put on the OMNITRIX. He discovers that it has reconfigured his DNA and can now transform him into 10 brand new aliens. Joined by his super-powered cousin Gwen Tennyson and his equally powerful former enemy Kevin Levin, Ben is on a mission to find Grandpa Max, who has been missing. But Ben must first defeat the evil DNAliens, a powerful alien race intent on destroying the galaxy. Throughout the series, Ben will join forces with other young heroes to save the galaxy and his Grandpa Max while passing along his knowledge to a whole new generation.

The first issue of DC's "Titans" title hits stores tomorrow, reuniting the "New Teen Titans" team of the Marv Wolfman and George Perez era. Marv and Georges' Teen Titans served as the main infuence behind the animated series' Titans roster, as well as many episodes' stories and villains (ie. The Judas Contract, Terror of Trigon, the Brotherhood of Evil, etc.). Unfortunately, while Marv and George aren't working on this new version of their classic Titans, Judd Winick will be writing it with Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund on artwork.

"Titans" #1: Someone or something is continuing its attack on anyone who's ever been a Titan, including Nightwing, Starfire, Donna Troy, Beast Boy and Raven. You won't want to miss this new startling chapter in Titans history that may forge a new team from the ashes of old, dead friends.

Check out a 5-page preview of "Titans" #1, provided by Newsarama. Pick up the issue to see familiar faces together again for the "first" time!

TT live-action movie update (also: TT crew on new Batman show!; TTG artist appearance & more)
Posted by Butch on April 3, 2008 @ 11:56 pm EST - Link
This week, ComicMix.com interviewed Mark Verheiden about his Teen Titans live-action movie. Still in progress, Mark had sent Warner Bros a script draft right before the big writer's guild strike. Fortunately, he's continuing the project where he left off, with a revised draft in the works. The writer discusses his inspirations and intentions for the live-action Teen Titans, adding that "there will be a Nightwing story and Robin is in it, too". He also adds that the Titans won't be young adults in this movie, but actual teens.

Mark Verheiden: "There’s a lot of ways to go with this, but my "take," if you want to call it that, is to try and make them as real as possible given the circumstances. Possibly a little bit more of a heightened realism in this, much like they’ve done in the comic recently. The trick is to find a balance between the realism of how they can work in this world so you can connect with them and they feel real to you, and then the fact they have powers, or most of them do, they have fun and do what they do. We’re not going to make it grim and gritty or anything, but it will have great jeopardy, action and conflict. The bottom line is, we’re going to try and have some fun with it, which is the best way to describe it."

Click here for the full interview with TT film writer Mark Verheiden. Sounds good, but when will we hear (or better, see) something more concrete? Stay tuned.

In Cartoon Network's big upfront press event for 2008 today, the company announced a new show that'd been sparsely mentioned until now: "Batman: The Brave and the Bold"! This new animated Batman series will premiere this fall 2008 as part of a new Friday night action block.

So why is this interesting for animated Titans fans? Several crew members from Teen Titans will help produce the show, including: directors Ben Jones and Michael Chang, exec producer Sam Register, and producer Linda M. Steiner! So despite the very "Super Friends" look of the "Brave and the Bold" character designs, having them behind it already makes it sound promising. Besides, how neat is it to see an animated version of Jaime Reyes (the current Blue Beetle and part-time Teen Titan)? Maybe there'll be room for some cartoon Titans after all!

"Teen Titans Go!" guest artist Joe Quinones will be a special guest at the Boston Comic Book Spectacular, which will take place on Sunday, April 13th @ 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event will be held at the 6th floor of the Boston Radisson Hotel. A Boston local artist, Joe provided the art for TTG #53's Beast Boy/Doom Patrol story. If you're in the area, swing by to say hello and check out his work. Click here for full details on the event. Thanks to "wanolan" for letting us know!

Joe also put up some new Teen Titans drawings on his blog, of Beast Boy and Robin. They're pretty slick, check em out!

In addition to having all Teen Titans Season 5 episodes on two discs, it will also include 20 minutes of extra "top secret files" material. TTG #53 preview pages and art! (also: "Tokyo" re-airing on CN)
Posted by Butch on March 24, 2008 @ 11:07 pm EST - Link
On his blog today, "Teen Titans Go!" writer J. Torres put up a 6 page preview for TTG #53, with pages from each story (it's another two-in-one issue).

J adds that the first story (with art by Joe Quinones) has a "Freaky Friday" twist for Beast Boy and Mento, while the second story (with art and co-plotting by Todd Nauck) has Kid Flash and Jinx facing off against new villains Kid Kold and Ice Kate. Kid Kold and Ice Kate character designs, if you recall, were previously put up by J. Torres right here.

Check out that preview, then pick up "Teen Titans Go!" #53 when it hits stores this week on Wednesday, March 26th...just two days away! It's gonna be another fun one.

"Teen Titans Go!" guest artist Joe Quinones also posted on his blog a 3 page artwork preview for his part in TTG #53, the story with Beast Boy on a twisted Doom Patrol adventure.

Joe also has some great renditions of the animated Titans in his own style up (Cyborg, Starfire, Robin, and Raven so far), which you can find throughout his blog. Check em out!

A TV heads up: Cartoon Network will be airing the Teen Titans movie "Trouble in Tokyo" this week on Friday, March 28th @ 10:00 AM (Eastern/Pacific timezones). It's another chance to get your Titans fix from CN and show them your support, as rare as they are these days.
